Horny Sticks and Whispering Lines
Wollongong Art Gallery | 2 Dec – 3 Mar 2024

Horny Sticks and Whispering Lines includes work by late Illawarra artist Ian Gentle (1945 – 2009) from the Gallery’s collection, and borrowed from private collectors and other institutions.

This exhibition displays a diverse range of Ian’s inimitable, finely tuned and considered work which was replete with intelligence, lyricism, and irreverent humour. Ian Gentle exhibited extensively throughout his life, with over 15 solo exhibitions and more than 30 group exhibitions, with his last exhibition being at WAG in 1992.

Ian Gentle’s work is represented in many public and private collections, and he was the recipient of numerous awards, grants, and residencies. This exhibition provides a long-overdue opportunity to revisit the work of this unique and gifted artist and present his work for new audiences to appreciate.
